Breathable shelter for fast-and-light nights outdoors
A breathable, rugged bivy for solo alpine trips and fast-and-light nights when you want to travel without a tent.
The Outdoor Research Alpine AscentShell Bivy is built for solo adventures where keeping kit light and compact matters. It follows on from the Alpine Bivy and uses AscentShell x Pertex technology to improve breathability, helping reduce condensation and making overnight use feel more comfortable.
A step-in opening makes it easier to get in and out without having to wrestle your way inside, while the generous headspace gives you room for gear. The no-see-um mesh adds useful protection when insects are around.
Why it stands out on the hill
- Made for solo travel and fast-and-light movement in the mountains and beyond.
- Breathable construction helps cut down on condensation.
- Step-in opening makes entry simpler than a traditional bivy opening.
- Ample headspace leaves space for some gear inside.
- No-see-um mesh is included for bug protection.
Things to keep in mind
This is a bivy bag rather than a tent, so it suits minimal shelter setups where low weight and a small packed size matter more than extra living space.
For anyone who already knows they prefer a stripped-back shelter system, the Alpine AscentShell Bivy offers a more breathable take on a classic mountain bivy format.
